Email Magic Tricks (That Actually Work)

Let’s talk about email — the kind that actually gets opened, read, and clicked. Not the snooze-fest kind that goes straight to the trash (we’ve all been there). I'm talking about simple little magic tricks you can use to make your emails feel like a friendly tap on the shoulder instead of a “please buy this” megaphone.
Because here’s the truth: your emails don’t have to be fancy to be super effective. They just need to feel like a real human wrote them. (Bonus points if that human has a warm cup of tea in one hand and two sleepy dogs at her feet.)
Ready for some email magic? Here are a few of my favorite tricks:

1. Make Your Subject Line Irresistible

This is your first impression, so don’t waste it! You’ll only get one. A super subject line requires words that generate curiosity and excitement in the reader. The headline functions as the first impression on a dating show — so it needs to generate enough interest to keep viewers tuned in for what’s coming next. Try things like:
  • “Can I tell you a secret?”
  • “3 simple ways to improve your Monday”
  • “This triggered me thinking about you…”
The message should avoid salesy words because it needs to come across as an authentic conversation. Your content needs to create the reaction "Ooh, what’s this?”

2. Write Like You Talk

If you wouldn’t say it out loud to a friend over brunch (or while texting them during a reality show), don’t say it in your email. That means using contractions (like I’m, you’ll, it’s), dropping the flowery language, and keeping things relaxed and casual.
People avoid reading emails that sound like textbooks. Your audience wants to know about you — the real, slightly-snack-obsessed, tea-sipping authentic version of you.

3. Give One Clear Takeaway or Action

Don’t make your readers guess what to do next. Want them to click a link? Say it clearly. Want them to hit reply? You need to ask them directly if you want them to respond.
One email = one main point + one call to action. Trust me, it’s way easier for both you and your reader.

4. Use the P.S. (It’s Pure Gold)

A little “P.S.” section at the bottom of your message functions as the encore of your email. People’s eyes always go there — so it’s an excellent location to repeat your call to action, add a fun fact, or give one last nudge towards a desired action. Example:
P.S. If you’re still reading, you’re my kind of person. Click here and let’s do this together.

5. Be Consistent (But Not Annoying)

Your audience will develop trust in your brand through the regular delivery of useful information. Daily emails aren’t necessary, but showing up regularly and consistently builds a connection. You should feel like a friend who cares, not a stranger who suddenly wants something.
And there you have it — email magic tricks that don’t require a magic wand because they work through honest emotional connections. ✨
Send that email now. You’ve got this. I will stay here with my cup of peppermint tea and a dog curled up next to me while I’m cheering you on. 💌

Catchy Headline Tips (That Don’t Make You Cringe)

Let’s be honest — writing a headline can feel like trying to name a new puppy. You want it to be cute, smart, and attention-grabbing… but not too much. You want it to stand out without sounding like you're trying too hard. Trust me, I’ve been there (with both headlines and puppies).
